Oly, our youngest German Shepherd, appeared in a TV commercial for the Petsy Brush with

Billy Mays.  Oly can be seen in the first few seconds of the commercial laying down in front

on the right side of the screen and at the end of the commercial sitting next to Billy -- on the

left side of the screen.

October 8 - 15, 2005:  "Dog Training" Vacation in North Carolina during the break!

During the break between Summer and Fall Session we traveled to the mountains of

Western North Carolina.  We were supposed to take the three Sheps with us but decided

at the last minute to leave them at home.  Jeff was sad to leave them, but during our vacation

we met a new friend.  We stayed in a cabin in the woods on 22 acres.  One day our new friend

"Lil' Bit" just wandered up and hung out with us.  Turns out he lived on 28 acres "across the hollow"

and was looking for some attention.  Well, of course, he got it and he hung out with us all week!

Oh, and Jeff couldn't help himself -- he had to teach the pup a few tricks.  We'll miss you big guy.

February 2006:  Jeff & Seigo Begin Training for The Iron Dog Challenge

October 2006.  New Hampshire.

One and a half (1 1/2) mile obstacle course through fields and woods, river crossings by foot

and by raft, low crawls, walls, tunnels, climbing, simunitions gunfire, "Shoot! Don't Shoot" house,

distant blank gunfire for distraction, retrieving evidence along the way, plus a 25-yard uphill dog

carry and a 100-yard K-9 sprint!

The "Top Dog" (Jeff) and his ace K-9 partner (Seigo) prepare for the Iron Dog Challenge.

April 30, 2006:  Scott & Buzz - First Agilty Competition

Scott and Buzz competed in their first agility competition.  Our cheering section -- Jeff, Vickie, Barbara,

Elvira and Chloe all thought Scott and Buzz were "awesome."

February 2007:  The Resort at Paws Up,  Greenough, Montana

Where else would a couple of dog lovers go to relax and have fun.  The Resort at Paws Up,

a five-star resort in Greenough, Montana was spectacular in every way. The resort, a working

ranch, provided a magnificent setting for all activities. The Blackfoot River, that runs through the ranch,

became well known to all in the book and movie "A River Runs Through It."  The locale was just as

beautiful in the snow.  Snowmobiling, dog-sledding, horseback riding and more -- this place was just

awesome.  The only thing missing was our puppies, but thanks to Dona and Gary at SiberNyte Siberians,

we had a fantastic dogsled ride with eight gorgeous huskies -- our "dog fix" while on the road.

Of course, the "Top Dog"  couldn't resist building a snowman and  . . . a "snow dog."

November 10, 2010:  Jessica Leigh Photography -  Seigo

Our friend and former trainer Jessica Leigh photographed our boy Seigo

When dog trainer Jeff Downing asked me to photograph his family (aka his wife, Vickie, and

their three German Shepherds), I was honored. But I also didn’t expect the story that came with

this family. Jeff’s pride and joy is a beautiful dog named Seigo. He is everything a man could want

in a best friend—loyal, obedient and sweet. But Seigo is sick. He has squamous cell carcinoma

at the age of nine. So Jeff and Vickie made the tough decision to do chemotherapy treatment.

He beat it once and he’s going through another round again after they found an additional tumor.

They all hope for the best, as always, but the part that I think keeps them going is that Seigo is not

ready to quit. I could sense that after only spending two hours with him during our photo session.

The session itself was entertaining because Seigo’s siblings, Oly and Tia, are not quite as friendly

and laid back as he is. So, we got a few photos with the furry family at their house (no harm was done

to the dogs or photographer) before taking Seigo to a local park in Palm Harbor. I kept asking if Seigo

was ok to play and walk around the park. Jeff said he’ll go until Jeff tells him it’s time to go home.

But we didn’t push Seigo. We did some photos of Jeff and Seigo doing tricks, fetching and playing together.

Then we did some quiet portraits in the grass so Seigo could rest and just “be”.  I’m a dog person and

I never thought I’d fall in love with an animal that wasn’t mine so quickly. Seigo is such a sweet soul,

I can see why the Downings will do everything they can to make sure he’s happy and healthy.
